The SONiC community continues to grow globally, driven by engineers and contributors exploring open networking in real-world environments.

Recently, PANTHEON.tech hosted a SONiC community meetup in Bratislava, Slovakia, bringing together people passionate about the future of open source networking to connect with like-minded peers.

An organic gathering of minds

We traded the traditional meeting room for a local pub, creating a backdrop for the kind of authentic, unfiltered technical exchange that only happens outside of the office.

Our goal was to provide a space where anyone (from veteran network architects to curious newcomers) could gather and discuss the open networking industry.

There were no formal slide decks, no schedules, and definitely no sales pitches. Instead, the night was defined by raw, honest conversation.

Experienced networking pros swapped stories about deployment struggles and real-world implementation. Even some curious university students came together, creating a unique environment for some quick mentorship. Conversations ranged from the technical details of SONiC to the broader implications of hardware disaggregation.

Building the Local Ecosystem

Bratislava has a fantastic foundation for open source collaboration, largely thanks to the long-standing efforts of the Cloud Native Bratislava community.

However, we noticed a gap when it came to dedicated networking meetups. We can confirm that the local scene is hungry for more Linux Foundation related discussions.

“We were pleasantly surprised by the turnout.  The Bratislava networking scene is even more curious about SONiC than we thought,” said Miroslav Mikluš, CPMO at PANTHEON.tech

When you step outside the office bubble, innovation usually follows. The success of this meetup proved that there is a vibrant, growing community in Central Europe ready to embrace the open networking movement.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who joined and made the meetup a success. The ribs were great, but conversations about networks were even better. We’re excited to see where this traction takes us next.
